Asynchronous replication provides the ability to migrate data between heterogeneous storage platforms, provides disaster recovery over any distance between any hosts and storage, allows for non-disruptive backup, and non-disruptive snapshot.
Asynchronous Replication works by taking a copy of every transaction on a SAN and replicating that to a remote site, on a continuous, rolling log. These updates are applied to a remote site asychronously, as updates arrive over an IP network, and do not require a total synchronization of writes to occur to the remote copy. Thie enables replication to happen over slower links, and has the added advantage of capturing a full timeline of modification to data for recovery at any time. |
