ABSTRACT:
Database performance is a key contributor to operating costs: if performance is poor, then associated costs are high; if performance is good, then associated costs are low. DBAs are ultimately responsible for database performance. With the increasing responsibilities of the DBA, time spent on diagnosing performance issues can become very expensive not only in terms of the DBA's time, but also in terms of resources spent by the organization as a whole. DBAs on average spend just over 25% of their time on monitoring and performance tuning. This time can be better utilized working on existing projects or new initiatives. Spotlight on Oracle provides an easy-to-use and robust solution that greatly assists the DBA in resolving day-to-day performance issues through real-time diagnostics and built-in expert tuning advice.
